em1I wanted to leave a mark, perhaps as an existential urge mixed with a lifelong inclination. I continued drawing on cups simply because; because I noticed I threw away fewer cups that way, and had good conversations with others about how to recycle these materials that accompany us so frequently.

I also liked what emerged, and gradually saw my cup collection as a form of journaling. I liked that a single-use cup became a work of art; a small treasure.

em4I hoped to find a way to make another meaning still; something that made sense of found materials and appreciated the intimate quality of the work. After all, these objects became my companions who escorted me through important events in my life.

Since I came back from a trip to Nepal, my husband and I joined the board of "Global alternative learning alliance" ("GALA"); a non-governmental non-profit organization that supports the education and training of children; particularly, children of prisoners.

I realized that I too could allow personal treasures such as this art of mine, to change hands, to perish, or serve a larger purpose.

eseriesWorking with children continues to inspire my examination of our attachments to things of all kids; attachments to experiences, place, and peoples.
